The quest for a second straight district championship came up short for San Marcos Academy as the Bears fell to district rival the San Antonio Castle Hills Eagles 46-42.

Though many people thought this was going to be a rebuilding year for the Texas State volleyball program, the Bobcats reminded everyone that the Sun Belt West Division title still runs through San Marcos.

Facing the regular season champions and undefeated South Alabama did not deter Texas State. The Bobcats battled to the end in a 2-1 setback to Wednesday night in the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Conference Championship from the Foley Sports Complex.

The Rattlers fell to East Central, 45-21, in a game that was much closer than the final score. The Rattlers opened up the game with a 14-6 lead but weren’t able to regain it after a 15-0 run from the Hornets before halftime.
San Marcos looks to avoid their first winless season since 2010, as the Rattlers host the East Central Hornets. The game will have major playoff implications in regards to who will be sent to either the DI or D2 bracket in District 27 6A.
