Art Exhibition and Program: Reshaping Trauma Through Art — An Artist’s Quest for Healing from Sexual Assault

Sunday, March 20, 2022

In support of National Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month, April 2022, an art exhibition and educational program, Reshaping Trauma Through Art will be held at The Price Center, 222 W. San Antonio St. in San Marcos, April 1 through April 25. Jennifer Epperson, Texas artist and activist, will show art created as part of healing from sexual assault. The program includes a formal presentation on April 23, from 6 - 8 p.m., using art to illustrate the artist’s personal story and to create awareness of sexual assault. Two informal docent tours led by the artist are on April 8 and April 21 from 3:30 - 5 p.m. These interactive tours will focus on the creative process. Opening night of the event will be held at The Price Center on April 1 from 6 - 8 p.m. The exhibit and events are free and open to the public.

“I am grateful for the support of the city of San Marcos Art Commission, to Hays Caldwell Women’s Center, Texas State Common Experience, Total Behavioral Health, the San Marcos Art League, Texas Physical Therapy Associates and to a host of other organizations and individuals who are sponsoring this event,” says Epperson. “Sexual assault is an underreported crime and a prevalent public health problem impacting 6.3 million or 33.2% of adult Texans over their lifetime. There is no other mental health issue that is so under-treated, and it affects victims and those around them.”
