GriefShare series offers help to people dealing with loss

Sunday, February 6, 2022

In January 2015, a handful of people in San Marcos learned of a nationwide program called GriefShare, a support group for those who have lost a spouse, a child or a friend. As they personally understood the mental and physical trauma of losing a loved one, whether it was anticipated or a complete surprise, the group decided they would welcome the opportunity to begin the program in San Marcos.

GriefShare was initiated at First Baptist Church San Marcos in the spring of 2015 and has moved forward since that time. While the meetings are held at the church at 325 W. McCarty Lane, it is a nondenominational program created to support all of the friends and neighbors in the San Marcos area. It features Christ-centered, biblical teaching that focuses on grief topics associated with the death of a loved one. The DVD seminar features nationally-respected grief experts and real-life stories of people, followed by a small group discussion about what was seen on the DVD.

Readers who happen to be moving through life with a loss of a loved one, or if they know someone in that position in life, the next session of GriefShare will begin on Monday, Feb. 7 at 7 p.m. It will be a series of 14 sessions on Monday evenings.

More information is available online at GriefShare.org, or by phoning 512-392-3377.

Alternate programs can be selected from the GriefShare website to fit a variety of schedules.

Whether a person is grieving the recent death of a loved one or is still hurting years after their loss, GriefShare can help. It offers practical ideas to help the healing process.
