Animate Mazurek of tekRESCUE

Local web developer to hold workshop on phishing scams

Sunday, August 23, 2020

Animate Mazurek, a local web developer from tekRESCUE, will present an upcoming Zoom workshop about the dangers of phishing scams at 2 p.m. on Aug. 26. Meeting ID and password information will be posted on the San Marcos Public Library Facebook page and website ahead of the event.

Mazurek is the web development team leader at tekRescue, which mainly builds and maintains websites as well as handling digital marketing for businesses.

“I have been working in website development for nearly four years, and in digital market for around 6 years, concurrently,” Mazurek said.

Mazurek first became interested in a career in technology through a love of writing and editing. She started at tekRESCUE as a content manager, writing and maintaining content for blogs and websites. “From there I was able to learn a lot more about technology and digital marketing,” Mazurek said.

Mazurek said that she decided to host a public presentation on phishing after noticing an uptick in the circulation of scams online.

“I decided now would be a good time to give back some of the value I have gotten from the library over the years by providing knowledge that can help our community keep their information safe from scammers during this challenging year,” she said.

Mazurek also offered advice to young adults who are currently considering a career in the computer field. “Remember that it is a wide, wide field,” she said. “Whether you want to build computers from the ground up, design fantastic websites, or dig deep into the statistics of digital marketing, there's something out there for you. Take what you're interested in and keep learning about it, through certifications, internships, and even your own research. You might become an expert or you might discover a new passion along the way."

Mazurek went on to say that she enjoys two aspects of her job every day: “First, the opportunity to exercise creativity in my everyday tasks, whether it be through visual design or written content,” she said, and second, the problem-solving aspect that comes with nearly every job in technology. Because technology evolves so quickly, we get to continue learning along with it, which helps make every day on the job new and exciting.”
