Tanger Outlets San Marcos continued its commitment to making the center and the planet a little greener with a tree-planting initiative in honor of Earth Day. This event was a part of a nationwide Tanger Outlets program to make a difference, one tree at a time. As a step in helping purify the atmosphere’s air and create fresh oxygen sources, every U.S. Tanger center planted a tree, and all team members were encouraged to participate in environmentally focused efforts and volunteerism in their communities to celebrate Earth Day. After more than 40 years of gardening in the same yard, Hope Weidman qualifies as a pioneer landscaper in the Sunset Acres neighborhood, adjoining Broadway Street just east of Interstate 35. In the spring of 2021, three aqua blue pots were planted and positioned on a hillside overlooking The Garden Guy’s backyard.
All three containers were planted with Pyromania Blaze kniphofia, Superbells Grape Punch calibrachoa, Superbells Coral Sun calibrachoa and Illusion Emerald Lace ornamental sweet potato.
The April 2021-planted Superbells Grape Punch calibrachoas survived all summer and winter and now stretch three feet over the rim of each container.
The first Pyromania Blaze kniphofia blooms started April 9 which is the earliest of all torch lily blooms in the landscape.
Aqua Blue Pots in the landscape and staggered on the side of a hill was not my idea, but that of my bride, the person who pops up on my phone as Jan My Love Winter. This is the color I have avoided like the plague for most of my life. To modify the French phrase, this project was going to be my ‘Peace’ de Resistance. You see Jan is a gifted and natural plant groomer when it comes to our mixed containers, so making ‘Peace’ is the goal.
The annual Founders Day Festival came and went this past weekend, celebrating Dripping Springs’ heritage and pioneer spirit.
