Meadows Center invites teachers to explore Spring Lake and earn credit

The Meadows Center for Water and the Environment at Texas State University is now offering educators an opportunity to earn Texas Environmental Education Advisory Committee (TEEAC) professional development credit while their students are on a field trip at Spring Lake.

“The Meadows Center’s education program works with more than 30,000 field trip students every year, and now we are excited to expand this program to provide professional learning for teachers,” Education Manager Sonja Mlenar said. “Our goal is to give teachers the tools and training they need to incorporate more environmental education in the classroom.”

This program is available for K-12th grade teachers of all experience levels. Participants will receive three hours of credit towards the TEEAC certificate of recognition. Pre-service teachers completing coursework at Texas State University are also eligible to receive credit.

“We’re excited that we get to do this dual credit program so that teachers and their students can be able to learn together at the same time,” Mlenar said.

The Meadows Center will provide a teacher packet consisting of pre and post activities to use with their students back in the classroom and participate in onsite TEKS-aligned activities during the field trip. Teachers will be asked to complete a teacher survey and student survey.
