Biannual city cemetery cleanup currently underway

The City of San Marcos’ biannual cemetery cleanup is currently underway. 

The city’s parks and recreation department, cemetery commission and cemetery staff began the cleanup Monday and it will conclude on Friday. 

Any item not in compliance with cemetery regulations with be removed from burial sites and held for families to pick up for 30 days at the cemetery maintenance shop. 

Prohibited items include glass containers, solar lights, spinners, swings and wind chimes. Fresh cut flowers are allowed, but must be removed within two weeks or when they become unsightly. Items that hinder maintenance or are not firmly secured or fastened to the ground or monument will be removed.

 The City Cemetery is located at 1001 Ranch Road 12. The cemetery is open to visitors each day from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Business hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
