Texas House District 45 Rep. Erin Zwiener (D-Driftwood) claimed victory Tuesday night over challenger Carrie Issac.

According to the Texas Tribune’s Decision Desk HQ, Zwiener staved off the challenge with a 1-point lead over Issac.

Zwiener received 57,111 votes — 50.5% — to Isaac’s 55,900 votes. According to Hays County’s Election Office, with all precincts reporting, Zwiener captured 52.29% of the county’s votes to Isaac’s 47.71%

“I want to give a deep, heartfelt, thank you to every Texan that voted today, to the volunteers and staff who worked tirelessly to get out our message, to the people of Hays and Blanco counties who put their trust in me once again,” Zwiener said in a statement. “Now it’s time to get ready for the 87th Legislative Session, so that we safely rebuild the Texas economy and continue to fight for public education, affordable health care, and this beautiful slice of Texas we call home.”

During Zwiener’s first session in the Texas Legislature she passed legislation to protect dark skies in the Hill Country and to diversify water sources along the Interstate 35 corridor. Zwiener was also a founding member of the LGBTQ Caucus in the Texas House.
