Flags were at half staff at the VFW Post 3413 on Hunter Road Monday, and a message board paid tribute to Senator John McCain, who passed away Saturday. Flags were also at half staff at county offices and some private businesses around town; but not at the U. S. Post Office nor city offices. The White House had its flag at half-staff Sunday but raised to full staff Monday. The White House didn’t issue a proclamation for other federal officers to lower flags out of respect until mid-afternoon. Memorial services for McCain, who spent five years as a prisoner of war in Vietnam, continue this week. Daily Record photo by Anita Miller
