The Lyndon Baines Johnson Museum of San Marcos celebrated the 20th Annual Ted Breihan Open Golf Tournament recently at the Kissing Tree Golf Club on April 21.

The day started a little cloudy but it ended up being a perfect day for golf.

For the second year in a row, first place was won by the team sponsored by Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, Attorneys at Law. Players included Vicente Perez, Billy Rodgers, Lupe Carbajal, and Todd Crosby.

Coming in as a close second place was the team sponsored by Carbajal Associates with Randall Henry, Pedro Quintero, Jesse Sanchez and Jerry DeLeon.

Placing third was the team sponsored by Premier Cuts with Brian Olson, Jeremiah Pizana, Ben O’Kane and Nate Steinbecker.

Other teams competing in the tournament were those sponsored by Germer Insurance, Ted Breihan Electric, USA Softball of Texas sponsored by John Naverrete, Elliott Electric Supply, Inc., Sunset Bowling, Rexel USA, Bob Sudela and Central Texas Refuse.

John Valdez from team Rexel USA won closest to the hole and Nate Steinbacker from Premier Cuts team had the longest drive.

“We were very pleased at the response to this year's LBJ Museum of San Marcos Ted Breihan-Memorial Golf Tournament,” Museum Board President Wayne Kraemer said. “This marks the 20th anniversary of the tournament. We want to thank all of the teams that entered, our sponsors and Kissing Tree Golf Club for making it a wonderful event.”

This year’s hole sponsors included Frost Bank, Carmel Imel, Ed Mihalkannin, Texas State Political Science Department, Melissa Millicam, Lonestar Electric Supply, Elliott Electric Supply, Rexel USA, Texas State University, Insurance One Agency and John & Chole Navarrertte. Food sponsors included Mochas & Javas, Chick-fil-A and H-E-B.

Restaurant gift cards were generously donated byCheddar’s Scratch Kitchen, The Root Cellar, Casa Maria Restaurant, Schulze’s Pit Room in Seguin, San Marcos Crafthouse Kitchen & Tap, Hermanos Taqueria & Bakery in Martindale, Anchor Bar, Pho Tran 8, Ivar’s River Pub, Blue Dahlia, Cafe on the Square and San Marcos BBQ. In addition, Tito’s Handmade Vodka donated a golf package for the raffle.

The LBJ Museum, located at 131 N. Guadalupe Street in downtown San Marcos, features exhibits honoring President Lyndon Johnson, the 36th president, who graduated from Southwest Texas State Teachers College (now Texas State University) in 1930.

The museum is open free to the public Thursday through Saturday from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.
