Wednesday, May 3, 2023

Sedrickia Wynn, Grady Leonard, Aiden Hayes and Megan Ombres all had top-10 school marks in their respective events and nine Bobcats had 10 podium finishes at the Texas Invitational on Saturday as Texas State wrapped up its final meet of the regular season.

Wynn finished fourth in the women’s 100 meter hurdles with a time of 13.27, which was the sixth-fastest time in school history and third-fastest wind-legal time. The senior also ran 11.39 in the women’s 100 meter hurdles, which was good for eighth in the meet and seventh-fastest in program history.

Leonard, meanwhile, threw 63.97 meters/ 209-10 in his third attempt in the men’s hammer throw to place second in the meet and register the seventh-best toss in program history. The firstyear transfer now has six of the top-seven hammer throw distances in school history.

Hayes turned in his third top-three finish in five outdoor meets this season with a clearance of 2.10 meters/6-10.75 in the men’s high jump that placed him second in the meet. The freshman’s PR was tied for the sixth-highest men’s high jump in the Bobcat record book and also moved him into the top-40 marks for the NCAA West Prelims.

Ombres continued her improvement in the 3000 meter steeplechase this season as the senior became the first Bobcat in four years to run sub-11 minutes in the event. She finished third in the meet with a time of 10:58.97, which was the seventh- fastest time in school history and best by a Bobcat since Leslie Romero set the school record in 2019.

Leonard, Hayes and Ombres were among the nine Bobcats who finished top-three in their events on Saturday. Dominick Yancy placed second in the men’s 400 (46.39), Elisabet Runarsdottir finished second in the women’s hammer throw (60.48m/198-5), Melanie Duron was second in the women’s shot put (16.28m/53-5), Breanna Clark placed second in the women’s 800 (2:18.23), and Katherine Stuckly was third in the women’s high jump (1.75m/5-8.75). Leonard added a third-place in the men’s shot put with a toss of 18.21 meters/59-9 while Koket Jimata finished third in the men’s 5000 meters with a time of 15:28.67.

Taahir Kelly ran an important PR in the men’s 400 as his 46.52 moved him into the top-40 of the NCAA West Prelims.

The Bobcats will have next weekend off before aiming for conference titles at the 2023 Sun Belt Outdoor Championships in Conway, S.C.
