The No. 21 Rattlers delivered another district shutout beating the East Central Hornets 6-0 for another critical district win.

San Marcos improves to 22-4 overall with a 8-2 district record.

The Rattlers struck first in the bottom of the first inning when pitcher Reagan Chomel hit a line drive RBI single with two out into center field to score center fielder Tony Diaz at second giving San Marcos a 1-0 lead.

With Judah Pigg running for Chomel at first, Pigg stole second base to put the Rattlers in scoring position. Pigg scored a run for the Rattlers as third baseman Dylan Nunez hit an RBI single into right field as the Rattlers went up 2-0.

San Marcos added on to their lead in the fourth inning.

A fielder’s choice by catcher Colson Geesee moved runners Pigg and Nunez to third and second.

Pigg was brought home a second time, scoring on a passed ball while Nunez took third base. Nunez scored on a sacrifice fly by Jack Vasquez giving the Rattlers a 4-0 lead.

San Marcos answered back in the sixth inning when the Rattlers scored two more runs on an East Central fielder error extending the lead to 6-0 en route to the win.

Chomel took the mound for the Rattlers and threw a complete game shutout.

The senior pitcher allowed no runs on four hits, one walk and striking out 10 batters on 105 pitches.

San Marcos returns home this Friday to complete the three game series against East Central and will go for the district sweep.

First pitch is set for 7 p.m. at Rattler Baseball Stadium in San Marcos.
