Rattlers fall to Lake Travis in thrilling three game series

San Marcos saw their season come to an end last Saturday as the Rattlers fell to Lake Travis in three games, losing to Cavaliers in Game 3 7-0.

San Marcos finished with a record of 25-12-1 which saw the Rattlers capture the District Championship, Bi-District Championship, and Head Coach Bryan Webb’s 400th career victory.

In Game 2, San Marcos scored the first runs of the game in the top of the second inning that was kicked off by a walk by Reagan Chomel and the left field single by Major Pellien.

First baseman Stephen Wilder brought home a run with a ground ball RBI single into left field as the Rattlers took a 1-0 lead.

Following a San Marcos strikeout, third baseman Dylan Nunez loaded the base with a bunt single, while also making it safe to first.

Catcher Sunray Estrada earned an RBI the hard way as the senior was hit by the pitch to allow a run to come across for San Marcos to extend the lead at 2-0.

Outfielder Gavin Gomez forced a walk to earn his first RBI of the game as the Rattlers went up 3-0.

Second baseman Dallas Calderon delivered a perfect sacrifice bunt to allow Nunez to score from third, as the lead was pushed to 4-0.

Lake Travis ended the inning with a flyout into left field but found themselves in a deep hole trailing by four runs.

The Cavaliers were in prime position to retake the lead as Lake Travis loaded the bases up with two outs.

Lake Travis scored their first run of the game by forcing a walk to make it a 4-1 game.

However, the Cavaliers were unable to bring home any more runs as a groundout to Nunez who stepped on third base, leaving the bases loaded .

Lake Travis again loaded the bases in the fourth inning following three singles.

The Cavaliers brought home another run, this time on a groundout to the first baseman as Lake Travis cut the lead down to 4-2.

Following an intentional walk by San Marcos, the Rattlers forced the final out of the inning with a flyout to center field, as Lake Travis once again left the bases loaded.

The Rattlers tacked on an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning via a Gomez RBI single to make it 5-2.

In the bottom of the 7th inning, the Rattlers recorded the first two outs of the game with groundouts to Wilder and Kutter Gage Webb to start the inning.

But the Cavaliers were not finished yet, as an error and a single put the tying run at the plate with two outs.

But San Marcos shut the door on a Lake Travis miracle as pitcher Reagan Chomel delivered the final strikeout as the Rattlers took Game 2 at 5-2.

Gunning for the Area Championship win, the Rattlers squared off with the Cavaliers in the decisive Game 3.

Following a scoreless first two innings, Lake Travis finally was able to score first with a RBI single to take an early 1-0 lead following a San Marcos error.

The Cavaliers then extended their lead to 2-0 after Lake Travis took advantage of a passed ball.

Lake Travis again added a run in the fifth inning with another RBI single to go up 3-0.

The Cavaliers then tacked on four runs in the top of the seventh inning on route to a 7-0 win over San Marcos to advance to the Regional Quarterfinals.
