Six San Marcos High School students took part in a spring signing ceremony on Thursday, May 11.

These six Rattlers have committed and signed to play their sport during their collegiate careers: Madelyn Boren, Lexi Carpenter, Nikolas Hall, Exavion Harris, Kevin Morales, Shane Moss and Marley Myers.

Madelyn committed to take part in STUNT at Texas Woman’s University, where she plans to study kinesiology. Madelyn said she chose TWU because of the campus and how welcoming the STUNT team was when she visited.

“I’m ready to move on to this next chapter in my life,” Madelyn said. “I’m excited to see what the future holds.”

Lexi will join the dance team at Tarleton State University. She said Tarleton State felt like home when she visited the campus. Lexi currently plans to study communications and business.

“It feels so amazing to get the opportunity to be able to sign for a dance team,” Lexi said. “And, just to keep the purple pride going.”

Nikolas signed to play tennis at Schreiner University, where he plans to major in education and hopes to eventually earn his doctorate.

“It feels amazing [to sign with Schriener]. I never thought I was gonna be here,” Nikolas said. “Only one person I know has signed from our team. I’m guessing at this point I get to go meet some people that I’ve already seen before and go to a new team even though I’m gonna miss San Marcos a lot.”

Exavion will be a member of the track and field team at Lamar University. He said he chose Lamar because of the vibe he got when he visited the campus. Exavion plans to study kinesiology with a major in sports science.

“It’s another accomplishment. It’s a big thing because I’m trying to be the first one to graduate college,” Exavion said.

Kevin will play football at Kansas Wesleyan University, where he plans to study sports science. Kevin said signing was a big relief.

“I’m excited,” Kevin said. “I wanted to branch off a little bit and go to a different place and I think this is the perfect fit.”

Shane will join the track and field team at Tarleton State University. He said he chose Tarleton State because of the facilities and coaching staff. Shane plans to major in kinesiology and minor in nutrition. He said it means a lot to him to be able to sign with Tarleton State.

“This has been one of my goals to be a D1 athlete,” Shane said.

Marley will also join the track and field team at Tarleton State University. She said she picked Tarleton State because she immediately fell in love with the campus, and liked the coaching staff. Marley plans to study business and marketing. She’s thankful for all the support she received during her time at SMHS.

“I thank my coaches for helping me get here,” Marley said. “It’s crazy to be leaving. It’s all becoming so real now.”
