Texas State's Lockwood qualifies for 2018 U.S. Amateur

Texas State men’s golfer Logan Lockwood qualified to compete in the 2018 U.S. Amateur on Thursday. The junior qualified after finishing second at the sectional qualifying tournament which was held at the Texas State Golf Course in Euless.

Lockwood began the tournament by shooting a 3-under 68 on the par 71 course in the first round. He recorded six birdies in the round with back-to-back coming on holes 10 and 11 and 14 and 15. After a solid opening, Lockwood followed up with a 6-under 65 in the afternoon round that saw him card five birdies and an eagle on the par 5, 497-yard seventh hole.

The round of 65 was tied for the lowest in the second round and tied for the second lowest of the entire event. Lockwood finished two strokes back of the qualifying event winner Triston Fisher, who plays for TCU, and beat out two golfers for the second qualifying spot.

The 2018 U.S. Amateur takes place in Pebble Beach, Calif. from Aug. 13-19. The first two days will consist of stroke play and be contested at both the Pebble Beach Golf Links and the Spyglass Hill Golf Course.

Match play will be contested at the Pebble Beach Golf Links and features the top 64 finishers after the two rounds of stroke play. The match play portion of the event takes place Aug. 15-19 with the first two days airing on FS1 and the semifinal and final matches airing on Fox.
