Sedrickia Wynn qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships for the first time in her career and set two school records on Saturday to highlight the final day of the 2023 NCAA West Prelims for Texas State at Hornet Stadium.

Wynn ran 13.16 in the women’s 100 meter hurdles and finished 12th to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Austin in two weeks. The redshirt senior’s time was fourth-fastest in school history and made her the first Bobcat to qualify for the event since Olympian Brigitte Foster- Hylton in 1998.

Texas State will send three to the national championships as Wynn will be joined by freshmen Chris Preddie (men’s long jump) and Elisabet Runarsdottir (women’s hammer throw). It is the most individual Texas State athletes in the national meet since 2017.

Wynn was in four different events on Saturday, including the anchor leg of the women’s 4x100 relay. The quartet of Anayah Washington, Sadi Giles, Cara Johnson and Wynn ran a school-record 44.09, but fell outside of the qualifying top-12 as they finished 16th.

Wynn narrowly missed qualifying in the women’s 100 meters as she finished five-hundredths of a second short of the top-12. She ran 11.24, which broke a school record that has stood for the last 21 years.

In the 200 meters, her final race, Wynn placed 17th with a time of 23.12. It was the 10th-best time in school history.

Katherine Stuckly wrapped up her Texas State career by matching her season-best in the high jump with a height of 1.77 meters/5-9.75. The senior, who was making her third straight appearance in the NCAA West Prelims, placed 18th in the event.

Freshman Utitofon Sam was making her first career appearance in the prelims. She had a throw of 47.64 meters/156-3 in the women’s discus to finish 42nd.

On the men’s side, Ashton Callahan, Daniel Harrold, Aiden Hayes and Chris Preddie all had shots to make it to the national meet as individuals.

However, each fell outside the top-12 in their respective events.

Callahan finished 19th in the men’s 200 meter quarterfinals (21.04) while Harrold placed 16th in the men’s 110 meter hurdles quarterfinals (13.84). The 13.84 by Harrold was tied for the ninth-fastest time in school history and less than two-tenths off from qualifying for the next round.

Hayes, a freshman, cleared 2.09 meters/ 6-10.25 in the men’s high jump to finish tied for 23rd in the field of 48. He needed one more increment to clear as the NCAA Championship qualifiers registered heights of 2.14 meters/ 7-0.25.

Preddie, who already qualified for the NCAA Championship in the long jump, did not register a jump in the triple jump in his three attempts.

The two men’s relay teams – 4x100 and 4x400 – also fell short of advancing out of the West Prelims. The men’s 4x100 placed 23rd with a time of 39.95 and the 4x100 was 17th with a 3:07.83.

The 2023 NCAA Outdoor Championships will take place from June 7-10.
