The San Marcos Rotary Club presented a check for $3,000 to a representative of the Rotary District at the club's meeting on Wednesday. The money will be matched 2 to 1 by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, so a total of $9,000 will benefit Rotary's worldwide commitment to eradicating polio. The funds were raised at a "Pints for Polio" fundraiser at AquaBrew Brewery, who donated the beer for the event.
Since 1979 Rotarians have raised more than $2.5 billion for polio and have vaccinated almost 3 billion children worldwide. Rotary is nonprofit, nonpolitical, and nonreligious. The San Marcos Rotary Club is 99 years old.
