In these crazy days and months, it’s reassuring to know that at least some things are, well, ‘sort of’ the same: the ever-popular Naturescapes Photography Contest and Exhibition is hanging at the The Walkers’ Gallery at the San Marcos Activity Center now that the building has reopened. That said, it will only be up for two more weeks. Visitors have until Dec. 4 to see it in person. Prints will also be available for purchase in time for gift-giving season.
Now in its 16th year, the annual event is sponsored by the Hill Country Photography Club and Hays County Master Naturalists. The contest seeks to showcase the beauty of the natural areas within the San Marcos area and surrounding counties, and to increase public awareness of the importance of protecting our natural world. It also gives photographers at all levels extra motivation to increase their skills to capture, share and receive recognition for beautiful and inspiring images of nature in the San Marcos area.
The organizers enlisted Herb Smith as this year’s juror. Smith was instrumental in getting the first years of the contest going, along with the San Marcos Greenbelt Alliance He is an accomplished nature photographer, having won numerous awards and juried many shows.
