KZSM — Heavy Metal Fundraiser Friday!

Since the beginning, we at KZSM.org have taken our mission to engage and entertain into the community, with our Kissing Alley concert series and most recently with SM- Fest, celebrated safely on the courthouse square at the end of October.

Since the beginning, we at KZSM.org have taken our mission to engage and entertain into the community, with our Kissing Alley concert series and most recently with SM-Fest, celebrated safely on the courthouse square at the end of October.

This Friday from 7 p.m. to midnight, at Ragnar’s on the Compound, Metal Mark Moniz hosts a fundraising concert and toy drive featuring the music he plays on “Metal Mark Live” every Thursday from 10 p.m. to midnight. Four heavy metal bands — Against My Flesh, Deocculted, Terrorform, and Spiraleye will rock this holiday party. Deocculted’s debut EP “An Eye for the Occulted Sun,” and Terrorform’s new single “Dark Matters” are all available on most streaming services.

Host Mark Moniz, “The Godson of Heavy Metal,” has been broadcasting on KZSM.org since our beginning in 2017. Before that, he was a regular on KIND, an unlicensed low-frequency station. His years of experience reflect both his passion for heavy metal music and his commitment to community radio — a forum for sounds, voices, and ideas that would otherwise remain unheard.

Mark provides an outlet for the local rock and roll and heavy metal scene. Up-and-coming bands send him CDs for air play, and until recently he has invited groups to perform live in the studio. In addition, he arranges and promotes benefits like this one, showcasing “the music that you love so much,” and helping out KZSM. org and another deserving community organization

Ragnar's On the Compound, at 6900 Ranch Rd 12 in Wimberley, has hosted some of those benefits. Ragnar’s is a music venue with an indoor bar and a 36' outdoor stage, handling events of various sizes. Masks will be required at Friday’s event, and social distancing is encouraged.

This is Moniz’s second year of playing Heavy Metal Santa by hosting a concert of his favorite music as a holiday fundraiser. To celebrate with him, come out to Ragnar’s, and bring a toy to be distributed by the Hays County Youth Authority.

If you can’t make the fundraiser, tune in to “Metal Mark Live” Thursday 10-midnight. Though not all of us have a history as long as Metal Mark Moniz’s, our radio hosts at KZSM.org all share his dedication to community radio. To get involved, E-mail kzsmsanmarcos@ gmail.com. To help sustain our programming, tune in, enjoy, and help out by volunteering or donating to support our 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
