Our Program Hosts at KZSM.org will celebrate the holiday with special programming that expresses the range of their imaginations and their connection to our community.
On Friday, Dec. 25, 8-10 p.m., host Carole Coburn of “Friday Night with Care” will feature original songs by all Hill Country artists, including Alex Winters, David Touchton, Heather Bishop, Lindsay Foote, Nathan Fox-Helser, Shawnee Kilgore, and Scott Collins. Most of these performers have composed original Christmas songs just for Coburn’s show— you won’t hear this music anywhere else! In addition, each artist shares their most fond Christmas memory as a lead-in to their song. The second hour of the show will feature traditional Christmas songs, a special recording of “Away in a Manger,” a message from the Nashville artist who recorded it, and Coburn’s own heartfelt holiday message for her listeners.
On Thursday, Dec. 24, 3-5 p.m., host Paul Wilson of “Philosophy and Popular Music,” will play the music of his band The Elftones, a group that has entertained in past years at The Sights and Sounds of Christmas. The second hour of the show will re-broadcast an interview Wilson and cohost Steve Jones did with songwriter Randy Brooks, who wrote the holiday hit “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer.”
On Tuesday, Dec. 22, 4-6 p.m. “Bookmarked” will include readings of holiday stories by members of the KZSM radio family, including O. Henry’s “The Gift of the Magi,” read by Program Manager Steve Jones; “The Night Before Christmas,” read by Carole Coburn; and a hilarious description of a disastrous Christmas pageant from “Bless Me, Ultima,” by Rudolfo Anaya, read by Gene Randall, host of “Indigenous Freedom Radio.”
Monday, Dec. 21, 9-10 p.m. Steve Chelmsford, host of “The Mop Tops and the King,” a syndicated show, will play “all Christmas songs relating to Elvis and The Beatles, with one small exception—George Harrison’s ‘Give Me Love, Give Me Peace on Earth. I thought it was appropriate,” Chelmsford says. Also on Monday, from 10 p.m. to midnight, host Rob Roark of “Vinyl Confessions,” will feature all the holiday music on vinyl he can find or borrow from listeners.
Whatever your own preference in holiday songs, stories, or celebrations, all of us at KZSM.org wish you love, peace on earth, and a joyous holiday.
And if the holiday spirit moves you, please help out by volunteering or donating to support our 501(c) (3) nonprofit.
