Edelmiro Ybarra Rincon of San Marcos, Texas passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, January 10th, 2021. He was 93 years old.
Edelmiro, known as “Eddie” to family and close friends, was born in Mercedes, Texas on January 3rd, 1928, the 3rd of 12 siblings. He graduated from McAllen High School and pursued higher education, receiving a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Texas State University [formerly, Southwest Texas State University].
Eddie joined the military in 1945, serving his country as an Information Specialist in the Army Air Force from April 1946 till January 1949. Following military service, Eddie returned to civilian life in the Texas Valley region, working for several news agencies and local newspaper companies as a linotype operator, writer and journalist. While there, he met and married another Valley professional, an elementary school teacher named Janie Perez. Eddie and Janie were married on June 22nd, 1952 in Janie’s Central Texas home town, Melvin. They were married for 62 years.
