The Dripping Springs Chamber of Commerce held its Star Awards event, recognizing local achievement, at Dreamland on May 13. The event, which usually takes place every February, almost didn’t happen. In fact, it was canceled until members of the Chamber Board rallied together to put on the event for the community.

The event recognized achievement in six categories ranging from Non-Profit of the Year to Business of the Year.

After such a rough 2020, the Chamber decided to add a new award category to the line up this year. The Above and Beyond award had three recipients and was presented to Chick-fil-A, H-E-B and Desert Door Distillery for their community service during the COVID-19 pandemic. H-E-B played a crucial role last year by keeping their doors open to supply the community with essentials, even when demand was high and supply was low. Chick-fil-a made sure essential workers were fed and that those struggling had a meal; and Desert Door Distillery was the first to pivot from bottling liquor to bottling hand sanitizer, eventually giving away 9,300 gallons for free.
