Jesse was adopted at the age of eight by Jeannie and Bob in Denton, Texas. At the time, he was living in a foster home with his younger brother Larry, who was also adopted by the couple.

The family moved to San Marcos in 1985. Two older adopted children had already become adults and had left home. Jesse was heartbroken, but managed to continue and graduate from Gary with certification in computer science. After graduation, Jesse worked at the San Marcos Daily Record and, then at Dell Computer in Austin for several years. He earned several technical certifications while at Dell.
