SWAT situation shuts down I-35 frontage road, suspect in custody

San Marcos Police took a suspect into custody following a SWAT situation near the 100 block of Interstate 35 on Tuesday. 

Brandon Swift, 32, was arrested after he barricaded himself inside a room at the Days Inn —1005 North I-35. He was taken into custody without incident and faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon/family violence and possession of a stolen firearm. 

San Marcos Police Department officers responded to the 1000 block of I-35 at approximately 2 p.m. regarding an aggravated assault that occurred at the location. Officials said a caller reported that a fight broke out among a group of individuals. SMPD said Swift, who was  involved in the altercation, pointed a gun at another person. A male suffered a graze wound after Swift fired one round, officials said. 

SMPD added that the victim was able to flee from the scene and was later transported for treatment. Officials said he is expected to recover. Other occupants were able to safely exit the building, SMPD said. 

Swift was booked into the Hays County Jail where he remains at the time of publication.
