Kathleen Inez Alexander Tucker was born April 8, 1921 in Waxahachie, TX the youngest of 4 sisters, Clyde McMakin, Anne Eckels, and Jean Arledge. Her parents were Eva Eugenia David Alexander and John Burb Alexander. She lived her first years on the farm in Waxahachie and the family moved to Corpus Christi, TX. when Kathleen was 9 years old.

Kathleen was a small child with a big spirit and heart. She did handstands on the outside of the house, walked the picket fence, and played with her sister Jean. Despite the family losing the farm and living through the depression, she never lost her generous and kind heart. Kathleen and her sister Jean lived with an aunt in Cisco, TX for a number of years when her mother was hospitalized in San Antonio. Kathleen lost her mother when she was about 18 and it always left a big hole in her life as her mother always called Kathleen her shadow as she followed her around everywhere.

She met her future husband Thomas Blackwell Tucker while working in a finance office that her sister Clyde managed when Thomas called on the company as a salesman from an office supply company. They married in March 6, 1942. Kathleen took business classes in Austin, TX and was a wiz at numbers and a great money manager. You could ask her the date of someone’s birthday or anniversary and she knew it, she didn’t need to look it up.
