As your true community radio station, KZSM.org strives to highlight local talent and provides new listening adventures. Our newest show, “Discover Texas” (Saturdays 6-8 p.m.) does just that. According to host Dave Prewitt, “Discover Texas” will offer “weekly visits with artists, musicians, producers, and folks in the media field generally based in Texas. I showcase people who aren’t usually able to get attention elsewhere, focusing mainly on underground artists.”
Prewitt hopes that listeners will discover something new and amazing about Texas and Texans. “I fully believe anyone listening may be happily surprised that in their own backyard they may have a creator who fills a need in their life.” The show primarily features music, but will also cover film, art, and anything else that highlights the creativity of Texans. And “there is no focus on any music genre; we play everything.”
Each show will showcase live guests, often musicians who are performing in the area. “Discover Texas” supports shows happening soon and spotlights any new releases. The first show, broadcast yesterday, featured a live performance from Half As Bad, a dynamic Austin based trio rooted in punk, alternative and rock, along with music from Amplified Heat, Pleasure Venom, and Dead Weight. Upcoming shows will include Apaches of Paris, Space Cushion, Eric Hisaw, and many more. Another upcoming program will feature J. P. Stone, a filmmaker creating a web documentary called The Capital Underground on the scene in Austin. “I’m having trouble finding space for everyone I want to have on,” Prewitt reports.
