‘Cats self-reflect, look to respond in week two

The Bobcats know their performance against Nevada on Sept. 3 was disappointing.

Texas State head coach Jake Spavital opened the team’s annual Tuesday press conference describing the frustration and displeasure the ‘Cats felt after their season-opening loss to the Wolf Pack. Considering the Bobcats were right in the game heading into the second half — trailing only 14-7 — the avalanche of turnovers and mistakes to start the third quarter was a tough pill for the maroon and gold to swallow.

“There was a lot of disappointment (and) a lot of frustration from this game. You know, I think there was a lot of build up into this game as well. I think we had a lot of added pressure as well, just really based off of ourselves doing that,” Spavital said. “But, you know, I think the reason why we’re disappointed and frustrated is because we’re not playing up to the style of play that we should be playing to, and that was kind of discouraging. That’s why, you know, I think they’re humbled. I think there’s a lot of looking yourself in the mirror and seeing where you’re at going on right now.”
