The San Marcos Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (SMUUF) recently took up a collection of $880 for PFLAG and WFLAG to be split 50/50 between the two organizations. PFLAG stands for Parents and Friends of Lesbian and Gay — including Bisexual and Transgender. WFLAG stands for Wimberley Friends of Lesbian and Gay and also includes Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT).
Jeannie Lewis, SMUUF Social Justice Chair, says, “Each month SMUUF takes up a collection called Donate-the-Plate during our Sunday morning Worship Service to give to a local nonprofit doing good work in our community that aligns with our religious values.”
Mary Pendergast, President and founding Board Member of PFLAG says, “Our organization supports families, allies and people who are LGBTQ.” Pendergast continued, “We educate ourselves and others about the unique issues and challenges facing people who are LGBTQ. We advocate in our communities to change attitudes and create policies and laws that achieve full equality for people who are LGBTQ.” Donations to PFLAG will be used to help fund an event open to the community to explore the concept of Gender.
