If the State Legislature agrees to it, San Marcos is set to become “The Mermaid Capital of Texas.”
At its meeting Tuesday night, the San Marcos City Council passed a resolution supporting a concurrent resolution in the Texas Legislature designating the city as “The Mermaid Capital of Texas.”
City Clerk Jamie Lee Case had explained at a council meeting in April that there are two kinds of resolutions that the legislature could consider: a simple resolution and a concurrent resolution. A simple resolution, which would be voted on in the Senate, and a concurrent resolution would be voted on in the Senate and the House of Representatives. Case said she had spoken to Sen. Judith Zaffirini’s office, and Zaffirini is willing to carry the resolution in the Senate.
