SMCISD teacher receives education award

The Anna V. Farr Heroes in Education Award was presented to Focus teacher, Sean Welch , a teacher who has made a positive impact on the needs of foster children and at-risk youth and worked to help keep families together. This award hopes to increase awareness of the needs of foster children in schools and recognize the huge difference a teacher can make in the life of an at-risk child.

“Sean works hard as a staunch advocate of not only the students in his Focus program, but all students on our campus,” said CJ Odam, San Marcos High School assistant principal. “Other teachers look to him as a model of how to handle situations when students are not handling things appropriately. Sean looks for ways to connect to students, find out their needs, then provide for them. He cares so deeply for each student he comes in contact with and is a wonderfully calming presence on our campus.”
