SGT David Avila Jr. left this world on April 27, 2019 in peace and in the company of his loving family. With his passing the we’ve lost a hero and true friend. Discussing his death, and entertaining sorrow, would do his life a great disservice. David would be entirely offended by such notions, as living every moment of his life was what he was most passionate about. In his 26 years he did a whole lot of living.

Born September 28, 1992, Alvin, TX is where David is from however, San Marcos, TX is what he called home.

David graduated in 2011 from Alvin High School, a member of the Yellowjacket Marching Band drumline, an avid volunteer at his church as well as the Alvin Rotary Club.

He joined the ARMY in 2011, deployed to Afghanistan in August of 2015, and ultimately serving our country as a Combat Engineer for 8 years. He was not at all content unless he was: contributing a part of himself to help when help was needed, protecting what needs protecting, inspiring when inspiration is scarce, and loving even the most unloveable amongst us. David personifies hope.

David Avila possessed an enviable sense of wit so entertaining that one would want to carry a pen and paper in his presence in hope of stealing some of his schtick to pass off as their own. That never worked. No one can pull off David like David.

A semi-decorated champion of Rock, Paper, Scissors; David diligently practiced the necessary pre-match stretching and a classic approach to technique. It is rumored he would let pretty girls win, but that is hearsay.

David Avila was always the first to welcome a new person, the first to make the new person a friend and the first to make a friend a part of the family. David loved his family fiercely; not only his family by bloodline but also his family gifted by fate.

SGT Avila is survived by his loving parents, David and Margarita Avila; brothers Davis Brandon Avila and Daniel Andrew Avila; aunts and uncles; Maria Eugenia DeLeon, Leticia DeLeon, Maria Elena DeLeon, Juan DeLeon, Nora DeLeon, Jorge Avila and Rebecca Medina, along with his brothers in arms and countless friends.

The world is truly a lesser place without him.
