A Texas State student died Wednesday morning after drowning in an apartment complex pool.
San Marcos Police responded to an unresponsive female at Treehouse Apartments early Wednesday morning at approximately 5:43 a.m. The woman was found in the deep end of the pool at the apartment complex located at the 800 block of N. LBJ Dr., according to a city press release. Friends flagged down a passerby who pulled her from the pool, began CPR and called 911.
The first officer on the scene took over CPR until emergency medical services arrived. EMS found no signs of life when they evaluated the female. A justice of the peace prounced her dead at 6:37 a.m.
A group was swimming early at night, or in the morning hours in the pool with several members who didn’t know how to swim and had been drinking alcohol, according to interviews conducted by SMPD at the scene. Pool hours for the complex are 10 a.m.-10 p.m.
According to police, the pool has minimal lighting around it and was murky. Officials believe the female’s friends lost track of her and the drowning went unnoticed for a period of time.
As the temperature heats up, people are beginning to enjoy outdoor activities more often which includes swimming. Swimming pool accidents do happen, and everyone must keep a watchful eye to ensure no one has a tragic accident. Please visit the CDC website, which has many resources and information on pool safety.
