Cuauhtemoc presents more than $18K in scholarships

On May 22, La Sociedad Cuauhtemoc, a nonprofit organization that handed out $18,000 of scholarships last night, with 38 from San Marcos High School and one from SMA. Ten percent of bar sales from every event funds the scholarship program. “It is an honor to be able to celebrate their future accomplishments and endeavors, the way our founding fathers always wanted. We've given over $200,000 since we started giving out scholarships in 2011. We were capped at 10K the first year, and we've been little by little raising it each year,” Liz Castañeda, vice president said. “Thank you, if it wasn't for your contributions and support for Cuauhtemoc Hall, it would be very difficult to do this for the community.” Daily Record photos by Stephanie Calvino

Mariyan Sosa, 18 of SMHS. Sosa will be attending Texas Lutheran to pursue her dreams of being a physical thereapist.

Dee and Shaun Haley. Haley plans to go to Texas State Technical College to study welding. Haley, 18, of SMHS was the recipient of the Cuauhtemoc Scholarship, the Lions Club Scholarship, and the First Presbyterian Church scholarship.
