Charles Austin won the Gold Medal at the NCAA National Outdoor Track Meet in the High Jump when he was a senior at what was then called Southwest Texas State University. Austin won the event jumping seven feet, seven and three-quarter inches. Six years later, Austin claimed the Olympic Gold Medal at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia and set a new record with a jump of seven feet, 10 inches.
