In support of those in the San Marcos community who need assistance, the St. Vincent de Paul Society of San Marcos will hold its Riverwalk for the Poor fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 5 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
“Inspired by our patron, St. Vincent de Paul, we dedicate ourselves to reach out and minister to the needs of others with love, respect and support,” Jeffrey Smithson, one of the event coordinators, said. “Our mission is to help with emergency assistance for rent, utilities, food, clothing and various other services for the people of San Marcos.”
Registration for the event opens at 9 a.m. with snacks and drinks available. After a welcome announcement, opening prayer and group photo, the two-mile walk along the San Marcos River will begin at 10 a.m. Upon return, a lunch will be served followed by door prizes and awards for top fundraisers. The event wraps up at noon with a closing prayer and words of thanks to all participants.
