The Gary Job Corps Center is proud to announce its September Employee of the Month, Jennifer E. Hernandez, Medical Office Clerk. Hernandez was nominated by her supervisor Brenda Rhea, Wellness Director.
“I first stepped foot on Gary April 1, 2019,” Hernandez said. “I had never heard of Job Corps prior to this. My second day working, I remember thinking, ‘What did I get myself into?’ We were at full capacity, Wellness was nonstop from open to close. There was so much going on, it was like a very busy ER Department. I walked into my Directors office at the time and said, ‘I quit.’
“She convinced me not to, and I said I would give it a week. After seeing our students and what their needs were and what they have come from, I felt this is where God has lead me,” Hernandez said. “Here I am, five years later and happy that I stayed. I stay here for our students. I am the first face they see coming into Wellness. And giving them a smile and a good morning and a hello can make all a difference.”
