On Saturday, Oct. 19, from 10 a.m. to noon, the Rotary Club of San Marcos is sponsoring its fourth annual Rise Against Hunger food packaging event to provide famine relief to starving people overseas. Volunteers assemble 15,000 packages of food, each serving six people, for a total of 90,000 individual meals. The event takes place at First Lutheran Church, 130 W. Holland St., San Marcos. More volunteers are needed. In past years, up to 150 volunteers have packaged the meals in just two hours. Volunteers have ranged in age eight to more than 80.
