GARY JOB CORPS
A building at Gary Job Corps caught fire around 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 30. Nobody was injured in the incident.
The San Marcos Professional Fire Fighters Association said that the first units arriving at the scene found a building “fully involved [in flames] and began defensive operations to extinguish the fire and protect the other nearby structures.”
Officials said that the building was a carpentry building that was full of the types of wood and fire fuel that made it particularly flammable. No students or instructors were in the building when the fire started and no other structures were in danger. The building is a total loss.
The beginnings of the fire were caught on a security camera.
“At this point, there is nothing suspicious about the fire,” Hector Rangel, director of Homeland Security and Emergency Management for Caldwell County, said. “We concluded it was an electrical fire in the roof of the building that trickled down into the woodworking shop.”
The fire was largely contained to the area, but a small grass fire spread a short distance.
SMFD responded with South Hays Fire Department, Martindale VFD and Mid-County VFD.
