Tuning in to KTSW 89.9, Texas State University’s radio station, may result in radio static. According to TXST, the problem does not have an easy solution, but they are looking at options.
“KTSW is not off the air and has not transitioned to internet-only,” Texas State University stated. “That said, the station is facing challenges.”
The current problem comes down to blocked signals.
“A microwave transmitter atop the R.F. Mitte Building on campus beams the station’s signal to the broadcast tower in New Braunfels,” TXST stated. “The ballast of the cranes currently constructing Canyon Residence Hall on the west side of campus intermittently block that signal, resulting in radio silence. The good news is that the crane blockage is intermittent. The bad news is that Canyon Hall will present a complete obstruction once completed.”
KTSW staff and the university are exploring permanent solutions. However, the university noted that “none of these are simple to implement and it could be some time before a path forward is identified.”
KTSW is a student-run radio station that is also available online.
