KZSM: Kissing Alley Concert and Toy Drive Thursday

Join your KZSM 104.1FM/KZSM.org family from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21, in the historic Kissing Alley for our second fall concert, featuring Myke Miller and David Montero. Like all the concerts in the series, this free, family- friendly event is funded by a grant from the San Marcos Arts Commission.

You can also celebrate the holiday season with us by bringing new, unwrapped toys for our annual toy drive. Your toys will join others under the tree in the window of our studio at 216 Guadalupe and will be delivered to the Southside Community Center on Dec. 16. You can also drop by with your toys any time until then.

Singer/songwriter Myke Miller, our featured performer at Thursday’s Kissing Alley Concert, performed in September at KZSM’s Reggae on the River event at Ivar’s. He enjoyed working with our community so much that he “jumped at the opportunity to help out some truly amazing people” by playing Kissing Alley.

Miller’s music expresses years of experience and a range of influences.

“Thirty years of playing others’ music as well as writing has incorporated many genres into my music,” he said. “Sometimes it’s country; sometimes it’s rock or Motown. It’s just the flavor I’m feeling at that time.”

Miller’s relationship with music began at an early age; he sang in church and school choirs.

“On my 14th Christmas I received my first guitar, and it was like magic,” he recalled.

For Miller, who is on the autism spectrum, music is a way of connecting.

“What I want listeners to experience is how I connect to this crazy world through music,” he said. “Hopefully we can share some similar experiences and realize we aren’t alone on this rock.”

In addition to Miller, Montero will bring his guitar stylings and original compositions to Kissing Alley to complete an evening of music. This gifted singer/songwriter is based in San Antonio.

Since 2017, KZSM has been bringing a 24/7 celebration of our vibrant, creative community to the Kissing Alley, featuring an impressive range of sounds including Latin, blues, Reggae and country, along with original music that defies classification. Like our broadcasts, the concerts foster community by creating connections between people through sound. Myke Miller explained the magic of his connection to his listeners, “I’m using my music to tell this world that may not understand me that I don’t understand it, but I’m trying.”
