SAN MARCOS CITY COUNCIL
The San Marcos City Council meets at 6 p.m. today and is set to possibly modify Tantra’s Conditional Use Permit to address the decibel limit, consider a possible zoning change of High Intensity for property located at Lindsey Street and North Street and consider a purchasing cooperative with H-E-B for diapers for the city’s Caregiver Program.
The council is set to consider a request by the owner of Tantra, Jeffrey Colasurd, regarding the Conditional Use Permit that allows the venue to serve mixed beverages but limits noise levels. The agenda packet is filled with emails from San Marcos residents in support of this request to adjust the decibel limit. Tantra received the initial CUP that allowed for the sale of beer and wine in 2006. In 2015, the Planning and Zoning Commission approved a CUP, which would be valid for the life of the TABC license. In 2022, staff administratively approved an amendment to the CUP when the business changed ownership. The CUP was granted, but Tantra’s owner is appealing Condition No. 4, which states that outdoor music can be no louder than 60 decibels as it is “unnecessarily restrictive decibel limits.” Council can affirm, reverse or modify the decision of the Planning and Zoning Commission.
The council is set to consider a possible zoning change at Lindsey Street and North Street by Shannon Mattingly, Drenner Group, on behalf of Peggy Taylor and Daryl Burttshell. The request is for a Preferred Scenario Amendment from Existing Neighborhood to High Intensity Downtown, which allows a higher density than the current zoning standard.
The council is set to consider a PACE Purchasing Cooperative Program with H-E-B Grocery Company to purchase disposable diapers for the City’s Caregiver Support Program on an as-needed basis. The diapers would be distributed through the Women, Infants and Children Program with assistance from other nonprofit organizations. This would be funded through American Rescue Plan Act Funds in the amount of $130,000.
