County approves vehicle repairs, road contracts

The Hays County Commissioners Court approved vehicle repairs, road contracts and donations at its most recent meeting.

Last week, the commissioners approved a request from Precinct 4 Constable Ron Hood’s office for $6,782 for repairs to a 2016 Ford Explorer Interceptor.

“What happened, constable?” County Judge Ruben Becerra asked.

“We’ve had an interesting 2019,” Hood replied.

The Precinct 4 constable’s office has had to make major repairs to its motorcycle unit — both tires, an alternator and more — and that has cost money. Hood said the unit is a 2006 Honda motorcycle received from the Hays County Sheriff’s Department.

“It’s served us well, but it is reaching the end of its life,” he said.

His officers also had a fleet accident that caused damage to the hood and windshield of a vehicle.

“That also ate into our vehicle funds,” he said.

A second fleet accident led to damage that will cost about $6,700 to repair, he said.

The commissioners approved the expense.

Commissioners also approved the certification and letting of construction for the south segment of the Farm to Market Road 110 project, from State Highway 123 to FM 621 within Precinct 1.

“The court’s well informed on this project, and we’ve been working on it for quite a long time,” said Mark Kennedy, the county’s general counsel.

The court also approved a professional services agreement for the design and preparation of plans, specifications and estimates for improvements to Winters Mill Parkway between Ranch Road 12 and Ranch Road 3237 in Wimberley as part of the county’s 2016 Road Bond Project. Precinct 3 Commissioner Lon Shell explained that a new Wimberley ISD campus is planned along that road, so changes to the road construction plans are needed in order to avoid interfering with school construction.

The commissioners also approved the acceptance of two donations. The first is a $1,500 donation from Wal Mart for the Constable Precinct 5 Office for the purchase of supplies related to community outreach programs. The second is a donation of $500 from Williams-Sebby Veterinary Clinic for the Juvenile Probation Department, which will use the funds for supplies related to upcoming summer programs.
