New Miss Beautiful SMTX crowned at annual pageant

Elsa Sanchez was crowned Miss Beautiful SMTX 2019 in the fourth annual Miss Beautiful and You(th) Can Do It! Pageant held Friday at the San Marcos Activity Center. The event, organized by Jennifer Mach, Special Events and Marketing coordinator, and Catherine Marler, Youth Services coordinator, was hosted by the former mayor of San Marcos John Thomaides. Sanchez received her crown from 2018 Miss Beautiful SMTX Kaylene Spencer.

In addition to winning Miss Beautiful SMTX, Sanchez won the title of Most Expressive with Megan Hearon placing as first runner up. The Miss Beautiful 2019 winner’s court includes Kia Davis for Best Smile and Tori Krauskopf for Most Inspirational. 

The You(th) Can Do It! Pageant winners include Chelsea Ashby for Little Miss Beautiful, with Kynlee Farquhar as first runner up. Brianna Ashby won the title of Junior Miss Beautiful, and Diego Sanchez won for Little Mr. San Marvelous. Diego Sanchez also won Most Inspirational for his category. 

Angel Arredondo, Ms. Wheelchair Texas 2018, and author of the bilingual children’s book, “I Love My Red Wagon,” served as the evening’s special guest speaker.

Winners of the You(th) Can Do It! Pageant will serve their title by riding on the Keep San Marcos Beautiful float in the Veteran’s Day Parade set for November 9, 2019. Miss Beautiful SMTX 2019 will also ride in the parade, but will also attend the Keep San Marcos Beautiful volunteer reception, and will say the Pledge of Allegiance at a future city council meeting.

The panel of volunteer judges were Elena Duran, City of San Marcos Neighborhood Commission; Jessica Burke, certified therapeutic recreation specialist at Texas State University; Aubrey Ashton, volunteer VP of San Marcos Youth Commission, currently developing programs for San Marcos youth; Gabriella Perlinger, recent Texas State Graduate in Recreational Administration, and Daniel Montemayor, who works for the city of San Marcos.

Prizes for the participants were provided by program sponsors. Sponsors for You(th) Can Do It! Pageant were Grande Communications, Embassy Suites - San Marcos, Classic Tattoo, and Ault & Ault Orthodontics. Miss Beautiful sponsors were Grande Communications, Embassy Suites - San Marcos, Classic Tattoo, and Mensor.
