Johnson and Wimberley advance to regional semifinals

HAYS COUNTY FOOTBALL

The Buda Johnson Jaguars and the Wimberley Texans advanced to the next round of the UIL Football playoffs after defeating their respective opponents.

The Jaguars continue their historic run after winning their first playoff game by beating the Los Fresnos Falcons at the Alamodome last Saturday.

The Jaguars kicked the game winning field goal with less than two minutes remaining to seal the win.

Johnson advances to play the Austin Westlake Chaparrals 1 p.m. Friday at Burger Stadium in Austin.

Wimberley continued their dominating run, thumping the Rockport Fulton Pirates 62-21 at Warrior Stadium in Corpus Christi.

The Texans advance to the regional semifinals for the sixth straight year.

Quarterback Cody Stoever led the way for the Texans with 226 passing yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 197 yards on 20 carries and two touchdowns.

Wimberley advances to play the Cuero Gobblers in the regional semifinals. This will be the 17th all-time meeting between Wimberley and Cuero and the 9th meeting in the playoffs.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Friday at UFCU Stadium in San Marcos.
