In a heartfelt tribute to fallen Officer Justin Putnam of the San Marcos Police Department, a press conference was held on Dec. 17 at 10 a.m at 10428 Lake Creek Parkway in Austin. A portion of the road at the intersection of Lake Creek Parkway and Mellow Meadows was officially recognized as Officer Justin Putnam Drive through an honorary renaming.
Earlier this year, Austin City Council Member Mackenzie Kelly introduced a resolution to honor Officer Putnam, a graduate of Westwood High School (Class of 2007) who dedicated his career to serving the San Marcos community since November 2014. Tragically, Officer Putnam lost his life in the line of duty on April 18, 2020, while responding to a domestic violence call.
“Renaming this street in honor of Officer Putnam is a small but significant way for us to express our gratitude for his service and sacrifice,” Kelly stated. “His bravery and commitment to the community will always be remembered, and we hope this tribute serves as a constant reminder of his legacy.”
The honorary renaming of Mellow Meadows to Officer Justin Putnam Drive is a testament to the Austin City Council’s unanimous vote acknowledging his bravery, service and ultimate sacrifice. The new street signs commemorating Officer Putnam’s legacy were recently installed and will serve as a lasting reminder of his dedication to protecting and serving his community.
