County tax offices to close early Dec. 31

HAYS COUNTY TAX OFFICE

Hays County Tax Offices will close at 2 p.m. on Dec. 31, to facilitate the transition to the new Tax Assessor-Collector, who takes office on Jan. 1, 2025.

Property owners seeking to ensure their payments are credited for the 2024 tax year are encouraged to avoid last-minute in-office lines by paying early or utilizing alternative payment methods. Payments can be made online at tax.co.hays.tx.us, where a convenience fee of 2.35% applies to card payments, and e-check payments have a $0.50 fee. Mailed payments will be credited based on the postmark date, and secure dropboxes are available at each tax office location for after-hours payments. Property owners can also call 1-800-3008007 and select Extension 9 for phone assistance. Card payments by phone are subject to the same 2.35% fee, while e-check payments cost $0.50.

The early closure is part of a transition as the Tax Assessor-Collector elect prepares to assume duties in the new year. For questions or assistance, taxpayers are encouraged to contact the Hays County Tax Office.
