Sales up for month, down for the year

TAX ALLOCATIONS

Hays County has seen an increase in spending for the tax allocation period for all but one city as well as an increase in year to date for all cities but San Marcos. This tax allocation period boost should help the city of San Marcos catch up, as it has received $842,930 less for 2024 year to date, as compared to 2023.

The sales tax rate allocation given by the Office of the State Comptroller for the city of San Marcos is 1.5%.

The sales tax allocation for December, representing sales made in October in San Marcos, has gone up 4.78% compared to the same month last year.

The amount allocated to the city for sales made in October is $3,173,053 up from $3,028,236 for the same period in the previous year.

The amount of allocations for the entire year to date is down 2.12% from last year.

Year to date, the city received a total of $38,782,545 in allocations, and year to date for 2023 was $39,625,475.

The tax rate allocation for unincorporated Hays County is 0.5%. The allocation for December, representing sales made in October for the county, is $2,810,382, which is up 9.25% from last year in the same period last year when it received $2,572,390. The payment to the county year to date is $32,214,961, which is down 0.24% from last year.

In 2023, Hays County received $32,134,901 for the year by this time.

All cities in Hays County except the city of Hays are up from last year for this tax allocation period, and San Marcos is the only city down year to date, as compared to 2023.

Here’s how the rest of the county’s municipalities fared:

• Buda: Monthly allocation is $1,227,059, up 19.33%. Year to date total is $12,985,487, up 0.72%.

• Dripping Springs: Monthly allocation is $409,113, up 11.44%. Year to date total is $4,737,905, up 4.46%.

• Hays City: Monthly allocation is $1,845, down 39.68%. Year to date total is $34,478, up 36.74%.

• Kyle: Monthly allocation is $1,452,377, up 4.85%. Year to date total is $18,112,999, up 7.49%.

• Mountain City: Monthly allocation is $3,383, up 34.16%. Year to date total is $35,593, up 18.36%.

• Niederwald: Monthly allocation is $16,836, up 84.08%. Year to date total is $189,569, up 67.48%.

• Uhland: Monthly allocation is $48,952, up 2.71%. Year to date total is $580,768, up 5.53%.

• Wimberley: Monthly allocation is $137,196, up 14.37%. Year to date total is $1,562,402, up 0.70%.

• Woodcreek: Monthly allocation is $8,124, up 21.09%. Year to date total is $106,144, up 5.55%.

Buda, Kyle, Uhland and San Marcos have a sales tax rate of 1.5%. The sales tax rate in Dripping Springs is 1.25%, and it is 1% in Hays City, Mountain City, Niederwald, Wimberley and Woodcreek.
