Our gala celebration of our local music scene begins with the red carpet at 6 p.m. and features vendors, live music and the unforgettable excitement of watching your favorite artists be recognized for their achievements. By becoming a member, you’ll play an active role in celebrating the best of San Marcos’ vibrant music scene. Your $20 membership includes eligibility to nominate artists, 50% off tickets to the SMMA Awards Ceremony, and a free official SMMA T-shirt, proudly showcasing your support for local music. You can nominate your favorite artists now through Jan. 10. This year, we’ve added four new categories — best album, best vocalist, best pop artist and best Latin artist/band. Twenty other categories include awards for best artist, live performance, new artist, blues artist/band, R&B artist/ band, hip hop artist/band, rock artist/band, classical artist/band, reggae artist/ band, funk artist/band, singer/songwriter, country artist/band, DJ, producer, promoter, radio personality and live music venue. You can also nominate for the Lifetime Achievement Award, which will go to a San Marcan who has spent a large part of their life pushing the community and culture here in San Marvelous, and the Golden Martian Award, which is for a community member that engages in a large amount of community service. Once nominations have closed, members can vote from Jan. 13 to Jan. 17. Then voting will open to the public between Jan. 19 and 28.
