What better way to start the New Year off right than with an ice-cold jump into the San Marcos River, the city’s most treasured asset. The Polar Bear Plunge is an annual tradition that occurs on Jan. 1 that draws both San Marcans and out-oftowners to take the leap together. According to Women’s Health Magazine, the benefits of a polar plunge are plentiful. The sudden change of temperature can kickstart biological processes that lead to improved athletic performance, increased metabolism, increased energy, reduced muscle soreness, a better stress response and an elevated mood.
