Kyle Police arrest man in connection with train wreck

KYLE POLICE DEPARTMENT

Anthony Miller, a 25-year-old Kyle resident, was arrested on charges of Driving While Intoxicated following a crash that ultimately led to a train colliding with downed power lines.

According to Kyle Police Department officials, at approximately 9:24 p.m. on Jan. 8, Miller’s vehicle struck a telephone pole on the 100 block of Center Street in Kyle. The impact caused powerlines to fall from the pole, which were then struck by a second vehicle. The second driver’s vehicle was flipped over by the collision. Minutes later, an oncoming train collided with the low-hanging powerlines, severing both the lines and the railroad barrier arm.

Kyle PD stated that officers responded quickly to the incident and apprehended Miller on scene. No serious injuries were reported. However, both vehicles were significantly damaged, and power and communication services were disrupted for customers.

Pedernales Electric Cooperative has since restored power to all customers. Frontier Communications is working to restore communication services, and Union Pacific crews are working to complete repairs to the railroad crossing to reopen Center Street.
